This site includes funding information for both individuals and University-sponsored programs and activities. It is not a comprehensive list. All Students

University of Wisconsin-Madison. Office of Student Financial Services

Information for UW-Madison students about financial assistance available through loans, grants, and work-study programs, as well as financial counseling and information on funding available from multiple sources, including federal. Application forms are also available here. A good place to begin. Provides links to Guide to Undergraduate Scholarships , a Student Award Guide, and other resources such as Financial Aid at UW Wisconsin with information presented in more detail for graduate and law students, medical students, child care tuition assistance programs, financial aid for returning adults, resident and non-resident scholarships, and more.

University of Wisconsin Colleges. Financial Aid

An introduction to types of financial aid available for education - scholarships, grants (including federal and Wisconsin state), loans, employment, and other benefit programs and aid. Also links to financial aid offices in the UW campuses, how and when to apply, and suggestions of Internet sites to explore further for funding information. A good place to start.

College of Letters and Science. Student and Academic Affairs Web

Covers numerous funding, experiential, and other opportunities for students. To be eligible for an L&S Scholarship, students must be pursuing a degree in Letters & Science. Scholarships are arranged by year-of-study (freshmen, sophomores, juniors/seniors) and "other." The latter includes Honors programs (research, senior thesis, study abroad, research-related travel, community service, merit awards, etc.) and Other University Scholarships (campus-wide and national opportunities, funding databases, study abroad through the International Institute Fellowships Office, and more.
Links also to Pathways to Excellence site which lists further opportunities through sites linking opportunities for students to engage in community building, and out-of-classroom experiences. Students will find here the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program to undergraduate students in any school or college on the UW-Madison campus who want to work closely with a faculty or staff researcher in their area of interest.. Note: Many departments and schools on campus, such as the College of Engineering: Diversity Affairs Office, have information on fellowships and other funding opportunities within them, so be sure to check your academic department for additional information, as well as other categories that apply elsewhere on this site.

McNair (Ronald E.) Scholars Program

A funding opportunity for low-income undergraduate students from underrepresented population groups "with career interests in collegiate teaching and research to pursue graduate studies leading to a doctoral degree." This program is partially funded by the federal TRIO Programs. (Also listed with similar opportunities in the UW-Madison's Office of Diversity Resources site described next below.

Diversity at the Graduate School

International Students & Studies

Division International Studies

Here you will find a link to International Programs, which in turn will list information grants and funding and other resources available through their respective program sites. This extremely comprehensive site lists on-campus financial resources and specific grants available within departments, libraries, and other facilities or offices for international studies. An excellent site for hard-to-find campus awards and grants. Includes both undergraduate and graduate-level funding.

International Institute

The Institute and its sixteen member programs activities include undergraduate and graduate training, overseas learning opportunities, curricular innovation, overseas partnerships, and service and outreach to state government, business and the public. See links to Member Programs, International Research, and International Fellowships Office for information and support to for faculty, students and staff interested in identifying international research, grants, scholarship and other funding opportunities. This latter office also manages and coordinates international fellowship competitions for UW-Madison faculty and students, such as the Fulbright-Hays and SSRC grants competitions.

Global Studies

This program complements the programs in area studies and within the International Institute. Links to Faculty and another to Students often lead to funding news and opportunities.

Alliant Energy Underkofler Award

This is an award for excellence in teaching. Description states that "eligible individuals must be current members of the teaching faculty or teaching academic staff at one of the UW System institutions within the service area of Alliant Energy." An award from the UW System Office of Professional and Instructional Development.

Morgridge Center for Public Service

Sponsors the Wisconsin Idea Undergraduate Fellowships for special projects involving collaborative activities among University students, faculty, and instructional staff and surrounding community organizations.

DoIT: Academic Technology Funding and Support

Office of Human Resource Development: Grants

Includes information on UW faculty and academic staff grant competitions for professional development, sabbaticals, research service, and teaching.

Research and Sponsored Programs

This office provides assistance to faculty and staff with the administration of extramural support. See its Funding Resources and Proposal Development links. The latter includes Internet links to the Community of Science, Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS), and the Sponsored Programs Information Network (SPIN) databases, Budget Tools, and selected federal funding information sites. Office of Continuing Studies. Financial Aid Resources

The financial aid information listed here includes scholarships available from both within the Madison area and from without particularly for returning adult students. Many are for minority students, and a number are also from Madison chapters of national or statewide organizations.
