Outlines 1,613 federal domestic programs available from 56 government departments, agencies, bureaus, and other entities, which in turn manage programs through their main offices, or 160 "administrative sub-units" or approximately 3,000 field offices.
Provides information on all of 15 types of federal domestic assistance available, with program title, program objectives, eligibility factors, range and average amount of assistance, and address. Includes easy-to-use master index. Types of assistance include formula grants, guaranteed loans, project grants, federal employment, training programs, direct loans and payments, advisory programs, and more. Information is based on data in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance.
Home page describes Grants.gov as THE single access point for over 1000 grant programs offered by all Federal grant-making agencies. Site allows organizations to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal grant-making agencies. Also includes grant opportunities notices posted in the most recent seven days, links to grant application packages, resources such as proposal writing information, information on benefits to individuals, registration for grant notification, and more. Separate lists include Apply for Grants with application packages, and Customer Support with a Glossary, Tutorial, User Guide, and Contact Support information.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the managing partner for the Grants.gov Program. There are 26 Federal grant-making agencies which provide financial, governance and staffing support to Grants.gov . Links to all agencies are provided in the Grant Making Agencies site.

Formerly called FirstGov,this is a good place to begin for finding all types of assistance and benefits programs. The home page, Information by Topic, is a list for citizens and includes Government Grants, Benefits and Financial Aid. USA.gov is divided into major sections, three of which have funding announcements and programs. They are: for Citizens, for Businesses and Nonprofits, for Federal Employees, and Government-to-Government. Other links include information by Agency, and State , Local, and Tribal Governments, all of which include grants and assistance programs.
Some sub-categories include, USA.gov for Nonprofits and Resources for State and Local Government Employees and GovBenefits.gov for benefits to individuals.
U.S. Government Grants /Business Grants and Other Important Information
An exceptionally useful site maintained by Deborah Kluge, a grant writing consultant. Includes practical and well-organized information on federal grants. Provides general information about the grantseeking process, proposal writing, and other Government Grant-Related Links.
Scholars, Faculty, Researchers, Students
Scholars, faculty and researchers at the University of Wisconsin - Madison should also search the funding databases to which the University subscribes, since most include federal grants. A list of these funding databases are located at Grants for Individuals: Databases. Individuals at other educational institutions would do best to also contact their offices of sponsored research at their respective campuses.
CRISP: Computer Retrieval of Information on Scientific Projects
A database of "federally funded research projects in biomedical research projects conducted at at universities, hospitals, and other research institutions" and supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Searches both current and past projects and programs. Updated weekly. Maintained by the Office Extramural Research at the National Institutes of Health.
This site by the Society of Research Administrators has a plentiful list (among others) Government Funding and Resources especially for academic faculty, staff, researchers, and others in academe. Includes funding from local, state, federal, and international government sources. According to its web site, the Society of Research Administrators International is a "nonprofit association dedicated to the education and the professional development of research administrators, as well as the enhancement of public understanding of the importance of research and its administration."
U.S. Department of Education. Grants Information
Much to explore here. Includes sections for students, parents, teachers, and administrators. See also links to U.S. Department of Education G5 grant administration program, and Federal Student Aid for parents, students and counselors.
Also lists the ED Grant Award Database, an online database of federal grant awards starting with Fiscal Year 2003. Provides search options such as by state, zip code, award amounts, and more. Other helpful site: Offices: Coordinating Structure, which give a table of how the DoE is structured. Contains the E-Grants portal for online applications, and more.

This is where a citizen can search for federal and state benefits and assistance programs. Programs can be searched alphabetically, or by category or eligibility listings.
